Project 86 is a band that's been serving up hard rocking jams for over 20 years now. While their relationship with Tooth & Nail has been a rocky one over the years, there is no denying the importance of Drawing Black Lines for both the label and the band. P86 has been known for killer opening tracks, and "Stein's Theme" was a great start to that legacy. If you think it's hard to top the opener, "One Armed Man (Play On)" follows immediately and remains a personal favorite in the band's impressive catalogue. The driving bass line from "Me Against Me" makes it another favorite. The entire album is just super solid from front to back as it ends within the recently reimagined "Twenty Three." Drawing Black Lines certainly set up P86 to become the powerhouse outfit they are today and really brought Andrew Schwab's signature vocals and lyricism to the forefront of Christian rock music. This one may sound a little dated given the style of music for the time, but regardless, it holds up extremely well. This release is 18 years old now, but it remains a top 3 album in the band's discography for me.
