Starflyer 59 is a band that I adored when I first heard "Hazel Would." However, my pursuit of punk rock music (and then heavy music) pulled me away from Starflyer's more mellow sounds. Many years later, when Slow was announced, I suddenly had a renewed interest in the band. Jason Martin's intro- and retrospection coupled with poking fun at himself really stuck with me - so much that Slow became my number five album in 2016's annual JFH staff picks. Tracks like "Hi Low" bring a little of that shoegaze back and songs like "Retired" are just flat out fantastic. I love that Tooth & Nail's longest-running act is still releasing quality material after more than 20 years.
