Surprise! The Avengers wins 2012 for me as quite an event film. There had never been anything quite like it and it was a truly impressive movie. I don't think it holds up quite as well now as it played out the first time - and later Avengers installments definitely topped it - but this is definitely one epic movie!

Honorable Mentions: They're not close, but Skyfall and The Dark Knight Rises were still standout movies of 2012.
