Some folks' first experience with Mars ILL was their Uprok Records/Sphere of Hip Hop debut,
Raw Material. But I imagine that there is no shortage of fans (myself included) who first came across this duo upon the release of their iconic single, "Breathe Slow." The song is the jump start for their sophomore release,
Backbreakanomics, as well as the beginning of their amazing, albeit short, tenure with Gotee Records. Though
Raw Material is an amazing album, it seemed that Manchild and Dust stepped up their game for album #2, with incredible production and rhymes that just can't be matched. The commentary on hip hop culture, the church, and even manhood was, and still is, important and refreshing. In my opinion, this is a must-own album for true hip hop fans, Christian or otherwise.
