Man, the more I dig into 2015, the more I realize it was a really good year for movies -- and a really iconic year. But I'd be remiss if I didn't not only not acknowledge
Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation, but not give props to at least one of the movies on this list (since I can't do it for
Fallout the year that one released).
Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation represents a franchise that is not only NOT dead, but thriving and continuing to evolve and grow. Love it. And the addition of Rebecca Ferguson to the cast was truly inspired.
"Are your sure you're fine to drive? I mean, a minute ago you were dead!"
Honorable Mentions: The Martian. This sci-fi action drama is also surprisingly funny, too. Matt Damon's near one-man show is an underrated film.
Avengers: Age of Ultron. This
Avengers sequel was widely criticized, but since the release of
Infinity War and
Endgame,
Age of Ultron has taken on a whole new life to me. It's worth rewatching just to see the band get back together again.
Ant-Man. Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Michael Douglas... ants. Enough said.
Jurassic World. The revival of the
Jurassic Park franchise in
Jurassic World was a great way to honor the past and move forward. I'm excited for the final chapter next year. Finally,
Star Wars: The Force Awakens. I do love
The Force Awakens, but I'm still soured by the death of a major character in that movie, and how Disney handled the next two sequels. Otherwise, it was a really solid new
Star Wars chapter on its own.
