Pro*Pain. The name is telling. I think we doomed the record when we named it
Pro*Pain. The idea was simple: pain is good, pain (trials) can bring you to a new place. Like the pain from surgery will bring healing, but getting there ain't so much fun, you know. Well, this record ended up being a very painful, life-altering time of me. Those who know about the history of this album know what happened: the delay, the sample issues, Mars ILL's subsequent break-up shortly after. It was very catastrophic at the time and I felt like, as the producer, it was my fault. I'm a purist, a dreamer. I caused the downfall of Mars ILL because I just could not let go of sample-based production. It's how it's supposed to sound. Like a dummy, I didn't care about the risks. Well, the record is what it is because of this ideology, but would Mars ILL still be making records if we had adapted? I don't know. The 3rd record in our catalog is
Pro*Pain, and I wouldn't be half the man I am today without it going down the way it did.
