It's always interesting to watch there progression of an artist over the years. Sometimes artists who start out making fantastic music begin to stagnate after a number of releases. Some even start making bad music. In the case of Relentless Pursuit, I've gotten to witness an impressive amount of growth. Just two years ago, this was a project with some good songwriting that was plagued by a multitude of sound and production issues. But four albums later, it's really starting to take its intended shape.

"Comfort In Knowing" is the first single from Relentless Pursuit's next outing, an as-of-yet untitled EP (instead of another full-length record). And not only is this the outfit's best music yet, it's also some pretty solid metalcore all around, with most of the previous production problems having been ejected from the building. It doesn't necessarily sound completely pristine or uncompressed, but most ears may not mind. Mastermind Matthew Konradt has cleaned it up a LOT and has also stuck to what he does best, which is keeping the song almost entirely on the heavy side (with some piano near the end to round it out). There are no clean vocals (unless you count spoken word), but there are plenty of heavy riffs, mosh-inducing drums, and deep, almost deathcore-style growling. In essence, this is what I've been wanting to hear, and I'm quite pleased with the final product.

Konradt's lyricism is still pretty decent, as well. The song's concept is simple, with Konradt (or maybe a character in a concept album?) humbly coming to God, asking for forgiveness and help living a life that would be pleasing to Him ("This toxic world holds me back / when all I want is to see Your face / I know You would want me to go on / so at last I ask for Your strength / humble Your servant here on earth").

Relentless Pursuit has gotten noticeably better with each new album, and "Comfort In Knowing" is an indication that the forthcoming EP will be the biggest step forward yet. It's an enjoyable listen, and it has me excited to hear it in the EP's context. My hopes for this project have never been higher.
